The Breakthrough Tree on Elephant Rock

Breakthrough began in the year 2000 and has a number of marvellous stories to it. It has evolved to become one of India’s leading Outbound Training Service Providers. It began in a one and half acre land which was a brick kiln. The land is located off Bannerghatta Road, Bangalore, 45 mins from MG road. Uniquely placed on the land is a rock which is about 40/60 foot, with a fig tree on top of it. The rock resembles an elephant and is also called 'Elephant Rock'. The tree and the rock together were an inspiration for the creation of the Breakthrough logo.

According to researchers the tree is about 75 years old. Hypothetically speaking, a mother bird would have dropped the seed on top of the rock or the seed would have fallen through a crack. Whatever would have been the mode of the beginning, the little plant would have had a tough time ‘breaking through’ the rock to absorb nutrients for its growth.

Today, that little plant has turned out be a champion tree turning its difficult circumstances to an opportunity. The tree is almost a celebrity at present hosting activities like Zip line and Rappelling on its strong branches. In fact, Canon George Koover, Chaplain to Her Majesty the queen of England spoke about the inspiring story of the Breakthrough tree during a television show.

The very rock that was its limiting factor, is now a source of its strength. The tree does not have a trunk of its own. Without the rock, the tree would not be standing today. The tree continues to inspire each and every participant who enters the Breakthrough campus to ‘challenge the challenged’.  There is no point grumbling about situations around us. The challenge is to rise above and face it!
